MOOCs by design

When MOOCs first came out, there was a great deal of experimentation with developing online courses by faculty who had never taught in this modality previously. I felt this was a prime opportunity for Penn State to share its knowledge of developing high-quality online courses with the rest of the world. I had proposed a webinar series that described how a course development process is handled by a team of experts, instructional designers, project managers, graphic designers, web designers, and researchers. This five-part series later became a required component for any faculty member seeking to develop a MOOC at Penn State. It also became a valuable resource to several international institutions.
